What inspired you to become an artist?

Rolando: I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of creation—taking an idea and transforming it into reality. I see art and design as a way to emulate creation and alter perceptions of reality, opening doors to new dimensions of existence. The process of creating is not only about aesthetics but also about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. My inspiration comes from the desire to explore new realities and offer people unique experiences through my designs. This passion for transformation, coupled with my interest in connecting people to meaningful spaces, is what ultimately led me to pursue art as a career.

How does your cultural background influence your work?

Rolando: Having dual nationality—both Chilean and Costa Rican—has given me a unique lens through which I view the world. Each culture brings its own set of values, aesthetics, and philosophies, and I incorporate these elements into my work. My designs often reflect a fusion of tradition and modernity, where the past and present coexist harmoniously. I believe that cultural identity is a powerful force that shapes how we perceive the world, and I strive to capture this essence in my art. Whether it’s through traditional motifs or modern design principles, my goal is to create pieces that resonate with people on a deeper level, regardless of their cultural background.

How do you see the future of art, especially with the integration of technology?

Rolando: I believe the future of art lies at the intersection of technology and creativity. Digital tools are expanding the possibilities for artists, allowing us to experiment with new mediums and reach a wider audience. However, it’s essential to maintain a balance between innovation and cultural identity. Art should still reflect who we are and where we come from, even as we explore new frontiers. I see my role as an artist evolving alongside these changes, using technology to enhance my creative process while staying rooted in my cultural heritage. I’m excited to see how these new tools will transform the art world and look forward to being part of this evolution.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned as an artist?

Rolando: One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that art is necessary for the integral development of both people and society. It’s not just about creating something visually appealing but also about fostering empathy, understanding, and communication. Art has the power to challenge perceptions, introduce new ideas, and act as a catalyst for social change. Throughout my career, I’ve encountered numerous challenges, but staying true to my vision and persevering through obstacles has taught me resilience. Being an artist means constantly evolving and embracing the unknown, which is where true growth happens.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists?

Rolando: I would advise aspiring artists to follow their dreams but to also be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. The path of an artist is rarely straightforward—it’s filled with uncertainty and sometimes self-doubt. However, it’s also one of the most rewarding paths one can take. Determination and resilience are crucial in overcoming obstacles. My advice is to stay curious, keep experimenting, and don’t be afraid to express your unique perspective. Growth often comes from pushing boundaries and embracing discomfort, so let these experiences shape your artistic journey. Remember that every struggle is an opportunity to learn and grow.
